Teaching School

School Experience Programme (SEP)

The Blue Coat School is the Lead School for the Manchester Nexus School Centred Initial Teacher Training Provider (SCITT).

Manchester Nexus SCITT exists for children and young people: improving their life chances, instilling the joy of learning, and nurturing their development and achievement.  An unequivocal focus on excellence characterises our work, ensuring that everything we do is firmly rooted in the values that drive us – hope for the future, personalised learning and social justice.

Our mission is to train teachers who will inspire, challenge and support all their pupils, both now and in the future. Nexus teachers are committed. They are skilful, creative specialists in their subjects and age ranges who continuously develop their practice and help others to do the same. Our training fosters resilience with a balanced approach that recognises the importance of personal wellbeing amid the demands of this great profession.

Teacher Taster Days/Evenings

The day/evening includes lesson observations (day only), meeting current trainee teachers and receiving key information about the training year. The day/evening is designed to enable you to make an informed decision – is teaching for you? Which route suits you best?

Manchester Nexus (part of the Cranmer Education Trust) recommends our Teacher Taster Days to those people who are considering teaching Art and Design, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Dance, Design and Technology, Drama, English, Geography, Health and Social Care, History, Maths, Media Studies, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Music, Physical Education, Physical Education with Ebacc, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies or Social Sciences at secondary level and hold a 1st, 2:1 or 2:2 degree in that subject. We do accept a 3rd in some instances, so do contact us if this applies to you.

Manchester Nexus also hold Taster Days for those considering teaching in a primary school setting.

It is important to note that any further School Experience Programme at The Blue Coat School is only available to those who have attended a Teacher Taster event and have applied to train with Manchester Nexus, have been interviewed with us and accepted a place.
