Sixth Form

A welcome from our Director of 6th Form

The Blue Coat School Sixth Form offers a broad choice of academic A levels, outstanding teaching and expert one-to-one support from our pastoral team.

We are a comprehensive school sixth form – a multi-faith, multi-ethnic, multi-talented community. Some of our A level students come from the school, but about 40% join us from elsewhere. On day one, your tutor will introduce you to your tutor group, and you’ll meet your fellow students every day of the week, forging friendships and learning from one another – and half your group will be Year 13 students who will give you crucial advice and guidance.

Students’ Successes

The sixth form was judged to be outstanding in 2011 and our student outcomes are excellent. In 2018 the overall pass rate at A level was 99.4% with 60% of all grades at  A*-B and 84% of grades at A*-C.  These fantastic results have meant that all of our students got places at their university of choice, training providers/apprenticeships and employers.

Outside the Classroom

A wide variety of trips are available including an RS trip to Krakow, Politics trip to Westminster and a residential ecology trip in Wales. Future Engineers take part in the Engineering in Education Scheme, students attend university lectures, and universities and employers come to give talks. Year 12 students arrange two weeks of work shadowing, and you can take an EPQ qualification which provides a chance for you to extend your abilities beyond A-level. And of course there are the leadership opportunities – peer tutoring, sports coaching, mentoring and many more.
