Connexions
Connexions is a service for 13 – 19 year olds aimed at helping all young people to fulfil their potential. It offers expert information, advice and guidance on issues that are important to young people, including advice on progression post 16, post 18 and career pathways.
The Connexions Personal Adviser based in The Blue Coat School is Janette Battye. Janette introduces herself to all year 9 students as part of the PSHE programme in the Spring Term and is available during year 9 Parents’ Evening and the KS4 Options Evening. Students are able to access help from Janette in the Connexions Room during break and lunchtimes.
Free access to the Connexions Room continues during year 10 and more intensive work takes place with year 11 students. Here all students are offered either an individual interview or a group session of no more than 4 students where an opportunity is given for them to explore their post 16 plans and to talk about anything that is of concern to them. Opportunity is also given for exploring university courses and careers information using relevant websites. Janette is also able to offer advice and guidance on request to all students who progress into Blue Coat Sixth Form.
Janette works closely with Heads of Year and pastoral Staff as well as the Careers Co-coordinator. She helps with the college application process in year 11 as well as giving information on apprenticeships and offering help with CV writing and job applications.
She is always pleased to speak to parents either in person or by telephone and is available at all Parents’ Evenings. If a young person wants a parent to be involved in their interview, she is happy to arrange this.
Janette can be contacted during term time on 0161 624 1484 ext 331 or by email:
