The School

The Blue Coat School is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Comprehensive 11-18 school.

It is, first and foremost, a Christian community. The spiritual and moral development of young people is at the heart of our ethos. We value every individual; we are passionately committed to our students’ achievement and their personal growth, and we aim for excellence in everything that we do.

In March 2008 OfSTED stated:

The Blue Coat Church of England School provides an outstanding education.

Care, guidance and support are outstanding and contribute significantly to the pupils’ enjoyment and well-being. Consequently, Blue Coat pupils make the most of the high quality provision offered to them. . . . Students have highly developed spiritual, moral and social awareness. ... Students enjoy their time at school very much. (They) are rightly proud of their school which they report to be a place of safety where they feel valued as individuals.

The school provides an excellent curriculum to meet the range of students’ needs. . . .  (a curriculum) designed to ensure inclusiveness for those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and those identified as gifted and talented.

The interest of the individual student is at the centre of the school’s priorities. . . Parents overwhelmingly agree that students are well cared for in school.

All members of the school community share a sense of pride in the school and its achievements. Consequently, they are highly committed and work hard in its interest.

Our commitment is to prepare young people for life by developing skills, knowledge, thinking, creativity, confidence and independence.

We are proud of the national recognition we have achieved for high achievement and that we were one of the very first specialist colleges for science and maths. We are a Beacon and Leading Edge school, and have achieved recognition from Investors in People, Sport England, Microsoft Academy, and the Healthy Schools Award.

Our major building programme has given us a modern science building, extensive IT facilities, a new sports hall, a new dining area and social area for pupils, and a new suite of 11 twenty-first century classrooms.
